Stardock fences 2.011/24/2023 You can create an unlimited number of window containers and resize them as you wish to fit anywhere on the desktop.įor a higher control, the application can also take a snapshot of your actual desktop arrangement so that you can use it again in the future. You can group your videos, documents, programs or whatever other files by drag and drop them into any window container anywhere on the desktop. Each window can be labeled so that you know its content and keep track of it in a logical manner. The application gives you the opportunity to organize your desktop icons into distinct windows which can be created manually or automatically. The idea behind Fences is simple and extremely useful. This small application represents the best solution for any crowded desktop. Fortunately there is a cure for your frustration for free and it is called Fences. A full desktop forces you to remember any icon's position and its related shortcut, therefore you will reach your highest point of frustration immediately. Oh in case you are not opposed to a yearly subscription check out the Object Desktop as they have some new programs that are intended to work with Windows.Good luck and have fun customizing your desktop.Everyone that works with the desktop interface has stumbled at some point on managing his shortcuts mainly because of their increasing number. When you get a chance, do a search here on Make Use Of for free desktop customizations and you will be surprised and how many have been reviewed here giving both the pros and cons of each. I have looked at all of the suggestions made here in the comments and all of them are very interesting. The great thing is that they are both free and if you think you would enjoy designing your own widgets they even have a widget editor built into the XWidget program. I looked at them and they have some interesting widgets, perhaps I will use a couple of them on my desktop. Also if you are in the camp that likes to have some widgets on your desktop they also have developed XWidget as well. I just went to their web site to check and they have updated it to work with Windows 8. I decided to install XLaunchpad on this install and really like it and plan on ditching Fences Pro and setting everything up with Xlaunchpad on my personal system right after the holidays. I just built a home theater PC for my parents for a Christmas gift and since they have used Windows XP for years and I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (I can't stand Windows 8 and will never use it) so I can remain my mom's tech support agent in the future. I recently ran across this article here on MUO where they reviewed Xlaunchpad back in March. The only thing having fences has done is make corralled areas for all the chaos. Unfortunately I work best with visual cues so I love icons on my desktop but at this point with even using fences my desk top is a disaster area. I personally have problems with my short term memory and can not use any of the launchers where you type in a key word or the name of the program to launch them, these work well for those who have great memories. When I first got it and started to use Fences I thought they were great for organizing my desktop however after a couple of years of use they are really no better than not having them. Hello,I have been using the Object Desktop from StarDock for the past couple of years which includes Fences Pro.
